Stephen Goodger

In 1993 Stephen Goodger graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario with a degree in Engineering Physics. For nearly 25 years he has been working for an Engineering Consulting firm designing network communication systems and programming automation workflows for mining sites around the world. He has traveled extensively throughout his career, also having lived abroad in South Africa for several years. Stephen often spends time in client locations such as Santiago, Mauritania and Baffin Island, where he oversees the installation and operation of the systems he designs.

In his spare time Stephen finds a clean break from network design by turning his attention to the simple analog beauty of shaping wood with tools. For Stephen, wood turning provides a welcome escape from the digital world of network and automation design and allows him to immerse himself in the creative process of crafting a unique piece. Stephen's passion for wood turning allows him to explore his creative side, and the satisfaction of transforming a raw piece of wood into a functional and beautiful object is a welcome counterbalance to the complexity of his day-to-day work.

Stephen Goodger's passion for wood turning also arose from the simple pleasure of a traditional wet shave and using a variety of brushes, razors, and bowls. His fascination with the beauty and functionality of the wood brushes used in wet shaving led him to explore the art of turning. From there, his enthusiasm grew as he began to experiment with different types of wood and acrylics, creating unique and beautiful pieces that are both practical and aesthetic. Stephen's love for the craft and his attention to detail is communicated in every piece he creates.
